The EAE Alumni community get together again in Barcelona, after a two year break
The Alumni community of EAE Business School came together again, after a two year break because of Covid-19, at the Palau de la Música Catalana. A total of 600 alumni attended the event in person, with a further 900 former students following the event inline via live stream. The former Chief Scientist of Amazon.com, Andreas Weigend, was the keynote speaker at an event that once again brought the Alumni community closer together. Weigend took the opportunity to highlight the importance that consumer data has gained in terms of guarantee the growth of companies, as well as how crucial this data is in the process of launching an entrepreneurial project
Referring to his time at Amazon, the former Chief Scientist at the platform explained how consumer insights enabled the company to make better decisions. In this respect, he underlined the fact that the possibility of measuring every consumer action enables us to make more precise predictions and can empower them to improve their shopping experience, which, in turn lets Amazon get to know the customer even better. “We tell Google more things than we tell our partner” emphasized Weigend in relation to the information that the platform gathers, adding that “Amazon knows us better than we know ourselves”.
With respect to the importance of data in entrepreneurship, Andreas Weigend highlighted that it is a mistake to think that we do not have enough information, which leads many people not to push their ideas forward. With this in mind, Weigend took the opportunity to encourage the students to capitalize on the whatever little data they have to draw conclusions and develop entrepreneurial projects because, by taking that step, they will gather more information about their market. “Companies compete for the consumers’ attention, so it is important identify the group that we want to target”, advised Weigend. “You can obtain any information you want, but it is crucial to ask the right questions to optimize your resources and make accurate forecasts”.
EAE WOMEN’S ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARD
Within the framework of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, EAE Business School took advantage of the event to present its Women’s Entrepreneurship Award. On this occasion, the award went to Philippa Morris, the Co-Founder and Director of Production at Scoop Nutrition, a company that promotes a healthy, active lifestyle that is accessible to all levels by selling easy-to-use sports products.
“Being an entrepreneur is an attitude. You have to learn from your mistakes and try again. EAE is a great support to entrepreneurship, as the School is always by our side, making the way forward easier”, explained Philippa Morris when she received her award, which is given to raise the visibility of the value and strength of women who lead their own entrepreneurial ventures.
EAE TALKS: TECHNOLOGY, SUSTAINABILITY AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
The event also included a number of EAE Talks, short presentations about sustainability, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership and the supply chain from leading experts, such as Federico Ruiz, the Director of the National 5G Observatory at Mobile World Capital Barcelona; Ada Antones, a Member of the Advisory Board and Global Excellence GPO Supply Planning Row Crops at BAYER; May López, Director of Development at the forum Empresas por la Movilidad Sostenible and Lecturer on Sustainable Logistics at EAE, and Diego Figueroa, Juan José Márquez and Juan Miguel Da Silva, the Founders of Jibu H2O and former EAE students.
Alumni EAE is an initiative that brings together current and former students, faculty members and the business community, with the aim of generating and strengthening bonds beyond the classroom among the more than 77,000 students who have studied with us since 1958.
